Thermal-break aluminum windows, explained
What a thermal break actually is, when it is worth specifying, and what it does not solve on its own.

The problem it solves
Aluminum conducts heat quickly. Without a break, an aluminum frame can feel cold in winter and transfer heat in summer, and condensation can form on the inner surface.
What a thermal break is
A low-conductivity polyamide strip is placed between the inner and outer aluminum profiles, interrupting the path heat would otherwise travel through the frame.
When it is worth the cost
Heated or cooled buildings, cold or hot climates, large glazed areas, and anywhere condensation on the frame would be a problem. It is less critical for unheated spaces.
What it does not solve
A thermal break improves the frame, not the whole opening. The glass build-up, installation detail and sealing matter just as much to the result.
How it is specified
Tell us the climate and whether the building is conditioned. We propose a standard or thermal-break profile and state which one the quotation covers.
Checking what you are buying
Ask which profile the quotation is based on. If price comparisons look surprisingly different, the frame system is often the reason.
A thermal break is a frame decision that pays back in comfort, but only as part of a complete opening specification.
